University of Surrey Session

As part of the international exchange platform of the 4th International Symposium on Urban Agglomeration Green Development & UK–China Bilateral High-Level Seminar on Urban Climate Resilience and Green Transformation, the second stage of the conference will host the European Young Talent Exchange on Environment and Sustainability (University of Surrey Session) at the University of Surrey, UK.

As one of the featured events of the University of Surrey session, this activity is designed for outstanding PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, young scholars, and high-level talents in environment- and sustainability-related fields across Europe and overseas. In connection with the academic themes of the conference sessions, the event will promote academic exchange among young talents, research-topic interaction, introductions to schools and research platforms, and information sharing on talent development opportunities.

The event will provide a face-to-face communication platform between overseas young talents and the School of Environment, Beijing Normal University, the Institute of Environment and Ecology Frontier Interdisciplinary Studies, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai, and the School of Ecology, Environment and Oceanography & Institute of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Guangdong University of Technology. It will also offer information consultation and communication channels for overseas young talents interested in learning more about academic career development opportunities at Chinese universities.

Event Positioning

This event is one of the featured activities of the University of Surrey session, the second stop of the 4th International Symposium on Urban Agglomeration Green Development & UK–China Bilateral High-Level Seminar on Urban Climate Resilience and Green Transformation. It is positioned as a special session for academic exchange among young talents and for sharing information on talent development within the conference framework.

First, the event will promote academic exchange among young talents. Focusing on frontier topics related to environment and sustainability, it welcomes outstanding PhD students, postdoctoral researchers, young scholars, and high-level talents from universities and research institutions in Europe and overseas.

Second, the event will serve as a platform for introducing talent development opportunities. It will present the disciplinary layout, research teams, research conditions, postdoctoral opportunities, young talent positions, and talent-program support of the School of Environment, Beijing Normal University; the Institute of Environment and Ecology Frontier Interdisciplinary Studies, Beijing Normal University at Zhuhai; and the School of Ecology, Environment and Oceanography & Institute of Environmental and Ecological Engineering, Guangdong University of Technology. Target Participants

The event will focus on academic exchange with the following groups of talents:

· High-level talents: Outstanding scholars with strong academic influence and the ability to lead research directions. The event will introduce high-level research platforms, disciplinary development priorities, and talent support policies.

· Outstanding young scholars: Young talents who have achieved representative research outputs and demonstrate strong academic potential. The event will introduce young talent positions, start-up research support, and pathways for applying to talent programs.

· Young teaching and research talents: Young scholars with doctoral degrees and strong potential for teaching and research development. The event will introduce teaching and research positions, disciplinary matching opportunities, and research platform conditions.

· Postdoctoral researchers and outstanding doctoral graduates: Outstanding doctoral graduates, graduating PhD students, and young researchers interested in postdoctoral development. The event will introduce postdoctoral positions, entry support, and long-term career development pathways.

This event will focus on talents with the following qualifications and development potential:

· Those who have obtained or are expected to obtain a doctoral degree from a well-known university or research institution in China or overseas;

· Those with a strong academic training background and a clear research direction;

· Those who have achieved representative research outcomes and show potential for sustained research development;

· Those who are interested in frontier issues related to environment and sustainability;

· Those whose research directions align well with the priority development areas of the relevant schools and institutes;

· Those who are interested in learning about teaching and research positions, postdoctoral opportunities, or pathways for applying to talent programs at Chinese universities.

Support System and Development Opportunities

The positions related to this event generally provide support in the following areas:

4.1 Living and Welfare Support

Competitive remuneration packages and corresponding talent support will be provided within the relevant fields.

Eligible candidates may receive support such as settling-in allowances, housing support, housing subsidies, or living allowances.

For candidates who meet relevant policy requirements, assistance may also be provided in connecting with children’s education, talent services, and supporting living facilities.

4.2 Working Conditions
